Lt 77 Remote

Post by digger782 »

Hi all
I have finally found a “good” LT 77 but is from a Sherpa and has the short remote and I need the long one as from a SD1 has anyone got one for sale. Does anyone know which clutch I will need to fit to my SD1 V8 with this gearbox
I also need the front end of the prop shaft so I can mate it to my cortina prop, do I need any other parts?

Hi there, the clutch will be the standard 9 1/2 ", for a cheaper option you can use the drive plate from the 110 landrover as it is the same spline count and diameter....

would suggest discussing with a prop supplier, Bailey Morris in St Neots offer a superb service and good value, just had one made by them.

Look for an old prop from an SD1 / P5 this will give the correct fitment to the gearbox with the slipper joint, then it can be adjusted for length and the correct UJ on the other end...probably looking at £100 for the mods....

They all have different gear ratios.
Are you quite sure the sherpa gearset is going to be suitable???

I know that first will be very short apart from that i am told that the ratios are the same.
I already have a 4 speed but is no good for cruising so I need the 5th gear.
I have also been told that all I need is the flange from a sd1 prop to connect to my prop, can anyone help with this flange or any advice where i can find one (tried local scrapys )
Thanks in advance

An SD1 prop has CV joints at both ends. I suggest looking for a Land Rover prop, there's millions of different lengths, and they're dirt cheap, so you could get a 2nd hand one and use the end off that.
