3.9 centre main bearing
Hi I am building a 3.9 intermediate engine and ordered standard bearings and proceeded to install them with thrusts top and bottom as I had read on an older thread that was acceptable to ‘alter’ the tongue in the bottom shell. Now everything is torqued up fine, all oilways line up, pistons and rods all in and torqued and there is adequate end float on the crank. Question do I remove the center cap and order another shell? Or will all be ok? Sorry if this has been asked before but there never seems to be any follow up as to whether it works or not. I personally would have thought that with a manual transmission the more thrust support the better?????

Re: 3.9 centre main bearing
Sorry to come in late. Just struck this myself - 94 Disco-2 3.9 block, thrust bearing came with thrust faces on upper and lower shell, but lower shell tang didnt match cap notch, so machine shop modified the cap just enough to fit bearing. Everything fits fine, crank turns fine. Had to rub down the thrust faces to get end float correct. Also a manual box used.
What did you finish up doing, and has it all worked OK?
thanks jp
