My current setup is twin SU's, distributor, timing cover, oil pump etc from a 3.5 RV8 on a 4.6 block and heads. I had the carb needles profiled on a rolling road and although I thought the 'profiling' was crude, just a long flat and a couple of notches filed down them, it did run well.
However, a few years later and it's slowly running worse and on stripping the carbs I saw the needles are worn and scratched as if someone's run a wire brush in an angle grinder up and down them! (presumably the needle jets will also be chewed up)
I couldn't find the answer before and still can't about which needles work and I don't want a full efi system so was looking to change to a Holley/Edelbrock/Weber carb when I came across the Holley Sniper efi system.
It appears a good choice, I can keep my distributor, it's got a built-in ecu and even looks like someone as hopeless as me with computers can get it set up and working properly.
Any thoughts on any of this?

They do look intriguing. I know someone who had one on a yank tank and he was happy with it. Not something if you want to nerd out and tweak to your hearts content, but that's not your aim.

As always with this sort of thing.
make sure you can find someone to tune it first.
Make sure you can get good local support when needed.
And if a complete newbie to this sort of thing....make sure the kit is very comprehensive and complete for your specific application.
Failing that, find someone who can install/tune you an efi system and make it work

Re: Holley Sniper efi
Initially this looked ideal, but now I'm changing my mind.
It's not just a case of buying the injector body, there's a manifold, fuel pump, high pressure fuel hoses, throttle and autobox cable linkages and probably other stuff I haven't thought of too.
Apparently it may suffer from some sort of electrical interference from the distributor too (assuming I've understood what's being said) - if I fit one and it doesn't then no worries but what if it does...
Also, I haven't found them from a UK seller and fear I'll be on my own if there is a problem with it so on balance I'll stick with a carb/carbs.

Probably a wise decision.
There are better more proven ways to do things

Re: Holley Sniper efi
Indeed. I considered using a single Weber 38DGMS on an SU carb manifold modified to suit because I've had this setup before on a 3.5 Range Rover and it worked really well but have only just found that the chokes are actually only 27 not 38mm and so have doubts they're big enough for a 4.6?
I'm not convinced about Holley carbs, they appear tricky to tune and who thought joints below the fuel level would be a good idea so a Weber/Edelbrock 500 kit is looking like the best option now.

I installed the Sniper 2 and I’ve started to learn how to tune it. It makes the Edelbrock AVS2 I had on it before look very ancient in comparison.
