Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
I Google’s RCT V8 and it went back to Rimmer reconditioning service.
So presumably a call to them may produce some results.
Unravelling that would be RCT = Rimmer, V8 = V8 4600 would be the capacity and then their tracing number.
Off course that could be complete hogwash

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
Hi Ian,
Many thanks for the below information. I gave Rimmers a call and they couldn't find anything. I then spoke to Racetorations (who Rimmer were in partnership with) and they confirmed that this was indeed one of their engines
Engine was rebuilt on 8th January 2001 with Kent cam and produced 265bhp back then. Gives me a starting place now though.
Thanks to all for the help and have a great weekend

I've just got hold of a Thor engine with a mystery engine number V8TT14XX compression ratio is marked on block as 8.37:1
It's complete at the moment and looks standard in terms of all the bolt on stuff and it's manual (flywheel and big LR clutch). It's basically brand new, never run. Any ideas on capacity or what it's was destined to go in?

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
To add to my previous post, I pulled out one of the plugs today. It's brand new and the piston crowns are spotless so it's definitely never been run. In addition to this, I shone a torch around and I can see 4.6 painted (more like printed) on the piston crown.
I also found a paper label on top of the valley gasket which was marked Tempest Harness Engine Petrol V8 Simulator so my suspicion is this was a factory development engine that was used to check engine harness routing.
Not sure about the clutch and flywheel, I thought all 4.6s were auto?

Hello, I'm new and trying to help a friend identify his Rover V8 engine. The number on the block is 24D00060. We cannot find any record of this number on any lists anywhere and hoping you can help? The other number for compression ratio is 35:1.
Thanks a lot,
Rijono

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
I would be grateful for help in identifying my engine.
There is a plate on the block just forward of the dipstick which reads 7A01714C. I cannot find this series anywhere.
It has Rover on the rockers and is fitted to a Scimitar SE 5A.
Thanks
John

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
I would think there is another number at the start if you look closely, and that it will be either 1 or 2.

The compression ratio should be stamped in that area as well.
Chris.

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
Thank you so much. This photo will blow up a bit.
I think it may be a 3 and the CR may be 9.75:1
If that it right it my be a TVR crate engine.
What do you think?
John

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
Yeah, I'd go along with the TVR theory. I guess 37A is the crate engine as sold to a few small car builders.

37A with a 9.75:1 will be a TVR 350i engine

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
This is very likely wishful thinking, but is there any way of getting the age of a specific engine? My car was built with a 3.5 from an SD1 which I was told was from 1984. However, the engine number range goes out to 1987 and if I want to argue with Mr MOT that it should be tested to pre 1986 standards, having an official doc that says 'engine 10A45597 was made in December 1983' would be a good tool to have

I managed to get one from a Rover operation in Coventry and they gave a letter on official Rover headed paper that stated it was built in quarter3 year xxxx

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
Please can anyone help with identifying this supposedly Range Rover engine. It's 3.5 carb and the engine number is 568226350 105CP. I'm trying to establish whether this engine is late enough to have a rear crankshaft lip seal as opposed to a rope seal. Its leaking oil at the moment and I'd rather not buy car its in if I have to change the rope seal - engine out job I believe?
Thanks in advance.
