Santa Pod Raceway New Surface Claims Another Victim

Post by Coops »

My mate Tony with his 1200bhp capri lost traction mid track sunday and went on quite a ride, ended up crossing lanes and running down the wall at over 130mph before slowing it down and bringing the car back onto the track

The new track claimed 4 cars over the weekend,

we are currently in the process of damage assessment prior to rebuild,

But he was nearly at the end, so why did the traction fail then? Surely traction problems would be mainly at launch?
Did it break away when shifting gear?

Chris.

At about 0:38 something blows out of the car. Any idea what it was?

car lost grip, the tyres spun then hit the rev limiter (what the smoke is) then it was off for a joy ride across the track :(

From the video, looks more like the rear end locked or something ?

2 distinct clouds of smoke just before the car starts to lose control. I'd be surprised if such a car with those tyres etc would have enough power to lose traction to such a degree so far up track to cause it to go so out of control ? ( although the big wobbly tyres are also inherently unstable and dangerous at speed too )

Any datalogs ? with wheel speeds etc ?

The surface does look great, and arent people also setting lots of personal bests ?
