There are a good few people around that I am sure will be willing to support you but its a straight equation to what you know to what you pay. The more you know yourself the less you pay plus if you ever change anything you can sort it yourself in minutes instead of relying on other people. Choice is yours.

i was an efi virgin when i fitted the vems,
BUT slowly i have learnt how to tune the car step by step, yeah i know a few others may of done the tuning in a few weeks where it has taken me a few months, but as marki said, at the end of the day i can now sit down after any mods and be confident to be able to retune the car,

I'm with marki and tony too. I was useless with elctrics too and was quite intimidated by it all but after a bad time with a carb (it was new) i thought i'd take the plunge so i read up on it all and once i clicked with it i was like "this is soooooooo easy to understand!" it really is so basic to understand. Its more black and white then a carb! If you were to ge a pre built ecu with loom you just put one wire there and another wire here and turn the key then laugh yer socks off when it runs! I'll put a vote in for phil and his megasquirts and loom. It all comes labeled up ready to go. And i know this is an over used saying but if i can do it then YOU really can! You've just built a whole car so i'm sure a bit of wiring won't be much bother! Go on go for it! You're going to take the car off the road this winter anyways aren't you?

Gavin,

Did you ever get your MS running as I was put off due to the issues you were having. Guess from you comments these were over come then and got it all running ok.

Yup the ecu was working fine i was just having issues with the throttle bodies, i was in over my head to begin with although i got there in the end. Not perfect but certainly behaved and driveable.

Its a Crower 50232 which isn't silly radical or anything, more "fast road" than anything else. I was using individual throttle bodies though which makes a difference to using silly cams.

Is it much bother to get to the cam in your car? Can you access it thru the bulkhead or is it an engine out job? Of all the go-zillions of cams out there i'm sure theres one that will give suitable power yet be tame enough to drive. I can imagine a switch like power delievery isn't desireable in you car in low grip situations!
