Where to find engine number?

Post by mr_s »

Hi all, I've just bought a 1978 Chevy Pick-up with a V8 of some sort in it. Logbook says it's a 400 (6.6 litre), bloke who sold it to me says it's a 350 (5.7). Whereabouts is the engine number so I can find out what it is...?

Cheers, Martin

Found the number now, had to use a different website to ID it though.

It's a 400ci, rated at 255-265hp, that makes me very happy! lol

Cheers for the help :D

It's in my '75 pick-up, so at the minute (until I go out when I have more time and look for the casting date number!) I'd assume it's a 1975 one.

Is there any significance to the date of the motor? Always keen to learn more about it!

Cheers, Martin

EDIT: Just noticed that I put a '78 truck in the first post. Again, number plate/logbook says 1978, VIN plate says '75!
