As I am running lpg that is what I have done to my engine, although the block was ok I have had it top hatted just to be on the safe side.

A mate of mine who races an old BMC A series engine always runs the revs up to about 4000 for a few seconds before shutting it down after idling back through the pits. I must ask why next time I see her!! I'm suprissed it doesn't carry on running ,always used to on my 1380 mini if the tickover was ...

Thanks for the replies. I’ve had the Disco from new, so it’s got a full dealer history, to my knowledge it’s never had the rockers off. It’s still a good idea on replacing the valve gear before I strip the whole engine down. With regard to the cams, I’ve added no extras only sport manifolds & e...

To me it sounds a problem I had with my engine a while ago,if you still have the original alloy rockers, the steel inserts that are crimped in become loose and that is where the tap comes from, you cant actually see the problem once you have the rocker out,to test you have to use compressed air,but l...

My 4.0 l was tapping like a gud un and I thought it must be a loose liner, after stripping it down it turned out to be the ebay bargain "new"cam and tappets that I had fitted worn after 3000 miles  Anyway am now building a 4.6 with my old block which is in good condition but I am hav...

4.0mpistons in 4.6

I am changing my engine to a 4.6,is it worthwhile using the pistons from the 4.0 in the 4.6 to raise the compression or will pinking become a problem?would I notice a difference?

Very intresting stuff.Would fitting the pistons from my 4.0 with new rings from the 4.6 be worth while as it will increase the compression?I remember Burgess from my MG days,I had a Aldon 1950cc 1973 roadster :)

Thanks for the info Ron,so the best bet is too leave the 4.6 standard?I did forget to mention the disco has manual transmission, and it is mainly used for road work except for pulling a trailer when we go motocrossing.

rover 4.6 upgrades.

Hi I have just purchased a 4.6 engine to fit in my LR disco2 to replace the 4.0 that is currently fitted and has a bad tapping noise, before the engine goes in I was thinking of getting some more torque/power from the engine would a cam change be best for this and if so what profile is considered the...
