Coil negative connector.

I'd change/test the ignition amplifier. The symptoms sound a lot like a problem there.

Both DM8 and DLM8 have been used on RR.

I had a 1986 RR, which had DM8 dizzy.

The current 1990 has DLM8, which replaced the DM8 in 1987 - if I remember correctly.

Both have the same vacuum advance unit.

Other could be the gear box mainshaft vs t-box primary gear splines. It's common with Rangeys and Discos with LT77 and LT230 - a known lubrication problem. Not so sure if it exists with B&W t-box, but the chain slack surely does.

Older 3.9's have 10-spline half-shafts. The newer 24 spline came relatively late, around 93-94 - if I remember correctly.

The common factor might be the alternator playing up.

It's impossible to get an idle below 1400rpm without the engine stalling, on gas, or 1500 on petrol, with or without the vac.
If I measure the revs usin a 'Gunson Testune' borrowed from a neighbour, it shows 1400rpm idle, fine.
