Hi,

I got them via enginestuff.co.uk - they initially said they couldn't get hold of them, but dug some up from a garage in Cornwall for me!

Worth a try - hope I didn't get the last ones! ;-)

Hugh Now that you've taken the advice from that WEIRDO in Thatcham perhaps you will take my advice and get hold of some Opel Manta CIH (1.9/2.0)valve stem seals.) So they do... A bit tricky to track down, but I found some in the end. Elvis Presley had lent them to the Loch Ness Monster to he...

Weight of just the block?

Hi,

Does anyone know the approximate weight of the engine minus cylinder heads, sump, timing cover, etc., ie., just the block, pistons & crank?

I need to sort out some transportation issues and the weight is key factor.

Many thanks!

Probably a common question - EXP16A?

This is probably been asked a million times before, but I can't find an answer so I am being repetitive please bear with me bear with me. The Rover Overhaul manual refers to "EXP16A (Marston Lubricants)" for things like the main bearing caps - what is it, or what is an equivalent of it tha...

Thanks for the tip. How embarassing - purchasing Manta parts: "Excuse me, I'd like to buy some Manta spares - could you slip them in a copy of Razzle in case I am spotted by someone I know?" Devon vs Thatcham, eh? "Have you met my wife - I mean sister?" Is that duelling b...

Valve stem seals?

The received wisdom is that my 1991 heads should have the flat washer type of valve-stem seals, the 'top hat' seals only being appropriate for post '94 engines, or if I retrofitted the post '94 valve guides. The flat washer seals do fit. I have tried the post '94 top-hat type and they don't fit. Is ...

Try Nitromors paint stripper its amazing! I cleaned a set of very dirty rocker gear in it. It removed all trace of black deposit as well as the brown varnish stain on some of the rockers. I washed the parts in diesel afterwords, however hot water might do the trick. I've just tried it on the inside...

On closer inspection itlooks like the front of the oil galleries are plugged-off with three strike marks peening each plug in position. Removing these (and finding replacements) might be as much effort as getting the block out of the car!

I think I need to divide the block into eight different areas and use a different cleaning technique on each one!

At least no-one suggested Cillit Bang!

Ah yes, the degreaser of choice... http://lh6.ggpht.com/_IQkNwYl1GUY/S46hA-3k3TI/AAAAAAAAMPU/s63n2hRIjpc/FISH%20001.JPG I once had to confess to her that on a Friday afternoon when she was out of the house I did something I didn't want her to know that I did. Something dirty. Something shameful. Som...

Thanks Mike,

Am I right in thinking the oil gallery plugs are at the rear of the engine, i.e., a block-out job?

If Fairy Power Spray is good enough for Ainsley Harriet it is good enough for me...

Cleaning black sludge from block

Hi, First post from me! I'm taking apart a 3.5 V8 EFi Land Rover engine that has been blowing exhaust gases out the top end of all four cylinders on one bank, turning the oil into a black sludge the consistency of golden syrup. Oil was still getting everywhere it needed to and everything looks shiny...
