DaveEFI wrote,... Carb SD1 Rpvers have an electric pump inside the tank. They suffer from fuel evaporation. So do the EFI models. External electric high pressure pump. The EFI only after being parked up on a hot day with a hot engine. There is a factory mod to help overcome this. Well I never knew ...

Thanks for all the replies folks! So its looking like Im ok pressure wise, as long as I keep the return line? This is exactly what I'd hoped for, but just wanted confirmation from someone with more experiance than myself. I never new regulators went in the return line. Is this to 'bleed off' excess ...

Hello primer, Leave your return line in place. The fuel pump supplies each carburettor, filling the float bowls to the level set by each float, with excess returned to the tank. Provided your fuel pump can maintain the maximum level in each carburettor at full throttle, then the pump is satisfactor...

I've just found a nice little formula for calculating fuel flow (CC per minute = BHP X 4.7), so I'll rig up the pump and see what it manages. Following the formula, a 200bhp motor should need 940cc of fuel per minute. Results shortly! Running zero lift (fuel can and pump both sat on the bench), it ...

The only reason I've hooked up the return line as it was already on the car, and I was hoping it would allow me to not use a regulator and not worry about flooding my floats. Does this not sound feasible? Its looking like a bigger pump is in order. I'm gather the next stage up is the 'Red Top'? Thes...

Fuel Line Plumbing on Twin SUs

Hello folks, Im after a bit of advice regarding the twin-SU setup on my new motor. Its a 3.5 RV8 from a P5B (the hi-compression 10.5:1 version), thats been modernised with stuff like proper lip seals on the crank, P38 heads & gaskets, a warmer cam and a high-volume oil pump kit. Its still runnin...

Hi Jim, After reieving the early bearing carrier from you I fitted it with a radius bearing and used a punch to lock it in place (the tack welds you mentioned wouldnt take to the bearing). Its now fitted and all bolted up and seems to hook up with the clutch cover with plenty of throw in the release...

Hi, Just had a quick look at your pictures, and one thing I noticed is that your release bearing is not the correct one for use with the pressure plate that's fitted to your engine. The pressure plate is the early SD1 V8 version, but the bearing is the later "self centre" type and cannot ...

Hi Denis, Yep, thats basically it. I think theres a little more than 1/2" gap but I'd like to re-check more precisely. Your right in saying that Im running out of throw on the fork before the CRB comes into contact with the fingers. -My concern is that not only will I not be able to disengage t...

Thanks for the continued interest folks, its really appreciated! Hmm, different length pivot pins and pushrods would alter the amount of pushrod protruding from the bellhousing, but surely it wouldnt affect the position of the CRB when its at rest? Im going to have another look at it when I get in f...

Thanks guys, this is just what I wanted to hear!

The friction face on my fly is approx. 21mm from the bellhousing mounting face on the block, which sounds 'right'.

I still havnt worked out why my CRB is two inch from the clutch cover though! :)

Hi Paul, I originally took the pushrod from the same place my master & slave cylinders, flexi hose & fittings came from; a late 70s range rover. The pushrod was indeed the wrong length so I bought a brand new V8 one, along with retaining clip. With the CRB sat in its 'resting' position and t...

Flywheel Thickness

Hello folks, Im trying to get a measurement of a standard 2WD flywheel thickness, and also the distance from the back of the block (mating face with bellhousing) to the friction face of the flywheel.

Can anyone help?

Hi Paul, The flywheel in question is the one mentioned in the topic I posted a few months ago (the only other one). I took it to a machine shop and had it checked for warping, stress cracks etc. and we took a few thou off the face (just enough to get through the hot spots). We did however find that ...
