alternator wiring

Hi folks

could someone tell me where the wiring goes on a rover v8 alternator? just now i have two thick wires on block going to battery+ and one thin wire doing nothing, where should it be wired to?

Depends on the alternator, but generally there are two big spade connectors, which are both BAT +VE, and one small one with goes to the charge light. There might be a 'W' terminal which you can ignore.

There were lots of different alternators fitted to the RV8 over the years. Early ones even had a remote regulator and warning light controller - a bit like a dynamo.

However, with yours, the two large terminals go direct to the battery - or the heavy starter wire terminal on the starter if this is more convenient.
The small one goes to one side of an ignition warning light - the other side of that goes to a circuit switched by the ignition switch.
