Range Rover 3.9 to 4.6 conversion

Hello all.
As mentioned in another thread, I have a 3,9 Range Rover which needs a bit of TLC. I have another 3,9 in the garage, which only needs a new waterpump. I thought about upgrading the camshaft thoug.
Then I came across a salvage yard, who has a LSE 4,6 litre standing, with 105.000km on the clock.
How much work is it to swap the 3,9 for this engine? I think I figured this much out :
Sump and oil pickup pipe from 3,9.
Serpentine front end from 3,9 - if I continue to drive EFi? Does it run well with the 3,9 EFi? Or would it be easier to maintain the 4,6 standard injection?
Thanks in advance for the help.

LSE 4.6??, the RR Classic LSE was 4.2. The P38 was the first 4.6. The answer to your question is very dependent on which one it is.....

Hello.
Oh yeah, meant P38. Hmm I haven't had a closer look at it yet... They describe it as 4.6EDC4 225bhp (year 2000)... Another salvage yard has this 4,6 litre : SALLPAMJ4VA357100 (year 1997).

To use the 4.6, you would need to keep the following from the 3.9:
Sump
Front cover & ancillaries
Inlet manifold & injection system

You would need to change the camshaft (and followers) for one suitable for driving a distributor.
You would need a spacer on the crankshaft at the pulley end (it is like a sleeve about 30mm long)

I don't know how well the 3.9EFi system would work on the 4.6. Maybe a MegaSquirt ECU would allow you to remap it properly.

Hi.
Okay, thanks. The spacer will need to be fabricated or? I haven't dismantled my 3,9 yet. I'll see what the asking price for the 4,6 is. Megasquirt would be an option yes, I know a few people who meddles with these DIY Ucu's...

The spacer looks like this:

I don't have the dimensions, but I reckon you could work them out easily enough.
