Greetings all
Fantastic site with loaaaaaadsa info that i'll be needing shortly
I'm a member on the HPOC and I know just how valuable these sites are, fantastic families.
I've got a Toyota Hilux mk3, all very tidy a shiny...but we've decided to give her a bit more Oooomph.
It's not about going faster although it will be nice to have that aswell, but more about that V8 noise.....awesome!
My 1st car was a Dodge Charger, 20 years old and I just knew I wanted that sound, it was gorgeous. Since then i've had various toys and now I want to make the Lux sound less like a kitten fart!
Anyway...that's a bit about me, looking forward to trawling the info on here asap.
Phil.

Hi Phil
Welcome to the madhouse.
You will find all that you need on here as there are some seriously clever people and what they don't know isn't worth knowing.
We never ever take the mickey either.... well, maybe just a bit
Can we have some pics please?
Cheers

Hi Paul
Cheers for the welcome.
I know what you mean about the seriously clever people, I'm on a few sites and it never ceases to amaze me how much information and the depths that people can go into things...brilliant sources!
I'm a bit rubbish at Pictures and that stuff, but I'll try and have a go.
It's a right mint old Mk3 Hilux, the next job was to get the engine bay cleaned up and sorted....then along came the V8 idea!
I spose whilst the standard motor is out I may aswell put something a bit more lively back into it
Apologies if picture uploads go a bit wrong, feel free to mod as needed.
Phil.

Hi Phil
It would be rude not to V8 that.
I have always had a soft spot for the Hi Lux truck and even thought about a couple for my works transport but sense prevailed as if we had those for work it would lead to no good tinkering when I should be working...ha ha.
Picture is fine and the right size.
Cheers

I can see this already !!!
Picture the scene...
Its a nice sunny day. The Hi-lux is empty in the rear bed. He pulls up to a set of lights next to a Civic type R. They drivers give each other a quick glance and a grin...
Phil gives the V8 a quick blip and moves forward a few inches. The guy in the civic gets the idea and brings the revs up while watching for the ambers on the other lights to see if he can get the hole shot on Phil.
Phil then flips the switch which opens the exhaust cutouts and arms the 100 shot of nitrous. The guy in the Civic R now looks across to phil as the gentle burble turns into a real angry growl. As the other guy is looking to see whats going on, the lights change and Phils boots it in 2nd to leave the other guy wondering WTF just happend to him as the Hi-lux disappears leaving two steaming tyre trails in its wake
Well!!
Something like that anyway
Welcome aboard matey

Phil
That was Perry as you can see he is already trying to lead you to the dark side
Nitrous is a really bad idea as it can lead to all sorts of marital stresses and "I just need this bit for the car love and that's it" kind of thing.
Electronic exhaust dumps are also a bad idea because once you have them you never want to run anywhere other than open.
I have both nitrous and dumps and it is kin brilliant and ths misses has'nt spoken to me for years now..
What a result all ways around!!!!!!

Geeeez....I'll have a gram of what your on bruv!
Yep, it would be rather amusing but no doubt if I wound the V8 up and dumped the clutch a bit lively, something along the gearbox line would poop it's pants and large portions of shrapnel would fly out in all directions!
Now i've made my mind up it's V8 time, i've started the ball rolling in the camps of a few 'old boys' that tinkered with RV8s.
A few goodies will hopefully come out from various dusty garages and hopefully this will turn out a right good-un.
The trucks mint, seemed a shame to change it from being so original...poop happens!
So chaps, lets stick our heads together and build a V8 to upset the Civic R soles!
Thanks for the warm welcome. x

I can see me getting led astray from my standard RV8/Hilux convo!
I'm liking the 4wd at the moment, gentle bimbling along with a great exhaust note......that's about it. No doubt given time that will change and it'll end up with a big block supercharged flame blowing monster stuck in it!

Hi
About £130 for a 45 gallon drum, £2.88 a gallon. . .
What you really want is a nice 383 SBC in it, with decent ally heads, stick a 3 speed+ overdrive auto behind it and an adaptor to mate it to a RR transfer case. cheep 420 bhp, 510 on methanol and no messing arround with NOS needed, just don't think Mr plod will like you running methanol on the road
Best regards
Mike

Are you sure on that price?
Time to convert the daily driver as it's cheaper than the regular pump stuff

NO....No no no, definately NOT!...absolutely no way am I going to go off the basic straight V8 engine...NO!
So what do you guys reccomend in the way of a mild tune, ie, Cam and ???? whatever?
I'm not a mechanic as such, got a fair idea of the basics and can get around things if needed.
My initial idea of just clean the engine and change the gaskets etc...lump it in and see how it goes as a starter has kinda changed a bit...
I know the engine will be in and out a few times doing the conversion, but I've stripped it of the basics and i'ts all very simple so far.
I'm now thinking to re shell the bottom end, new rings and (hone? de-glaze?) whatever it is the bores?
I wasn't going to remove the heads...seemed a bit more than needed at this stage, HOWEVER....do it right 1st time if poss.
So heads off and decoke, new gaskets just to be sure it's not going to give up in a few months or so.
Whilst it's at this stage...differant cam? what type just for the road?
I suppose this introduction is over and this should move to a differant section really
Cheers for NOT leading me astray!
