Vortech Chargers

This maybe one for Stevie T,
am i correct in thinking the vortechs are gear driven inside?
so the drive pulley will rotate the opposite way to the compressor wheel?
e.g ribbed pulley on front turns clockwise, compressor turns anti clockwise.
if thats the case if you get a clockwise charger is that refering to the direction of the ribbed pulley? or the direction of the compressor?
i always find awkward questions to ask dont i

Yes vortech, procharger and paxton are gear driven. Powerdyne use belts and rotrex use a friction drive. A standard clockwise rotation centrifugal supercharger is clockwise when looking at the drive pulley meaning theair inlet woukd be towards the back of the engine. A reverse rotation version allows the air inlet to be at the front but probably means a more complicated bracket.

Just spin it up and see which way the air blows Tony, you wouldn't believe the amount of air my 4-71 could shift when spun with a small electric drill- even at low revvs because the drill couldn't power it properly!!

my paxton is the old bearing drive,
but im looking at another charger and im possible thinking about the reverse rotation setup, that way i can move the charger closer to the engine and go back to the single belt drive,

You need to decide what you want.
Most units are available in either CW or CCW rotation.
Obviously the CCW will have a reversed scroll and compressor wheel. AT least nearly sure thats what they do.
I'd think its unlikely they would add a 3rd gear inside so keep the compressor still rotating clockwise.
So CCW would mean all visible aspects rotate CCW.
A friend linked to a Novi2000 on egay at the minute. Some guy in Portugal seems to be selling it off his Viper.
Although it's likely a little big for an RV8.

You not even going to try using the one you bought ?
What about going down the single turbo route ?

yeah we are,
but if a vortech turns up in the mean time then that has more scope for future power upgrades etc

An example of CCW.

Whether Paxton, Vortech or Procharger.
Any of them will work just fine. So dont hold off for just a Vortech.
and an example of CW rotation. And a bloody cool car

Hi Tony
isn't that an easier set up for you? you can run the 'charger off the pully closest to the engine using a longer belt that also does the rest of the gubbins on the engine
Best regards
Mike

Yeah I meant more the setup- pipes and fat intercooler etc!

If you have space at the side below the exhausts you can mount a standard rotation SC back a little so can still be done with one belt.
