fuel sender connections

I have a new sender unit to go into a tank I have made with two spade connections, one is marked `W` and the other is marked `T` can anyone tell me which one is earth and which one is to the fuel gauge ??

cant help you with the connections but you should be able to see which is which. One will go through the top to the coil of the sender and one will stop on the metal top. Failing that a quick test with a multi meter will tell you, the ground will be a direct short with the metal top.

Perhaps but probably not

I'd hazard a guess one will turn on an idiot - your're almost out of fuel light!

The other will change resistance as the float moves

Check resistance on both with a multimeter before installing

T is fuel gauge, W is warning light. So 12v + to gauge then sender earths it via its body connection and an earth connection from tank to chassis. Ditto warning light as sender earths the light when low on fuel.

I checked out the connections as advised with a multi-meter, and they do indeed look like a sender and a warning light, thanks guys for your help.
