More EDIS questions.

Post by DaveEFI »

Think I've sorted out where I'm going to permanently mount the coils on my SD1, so time to sort out the EDIS loom properly.

I've ordered up the correct wire colours from VWP to match those on the EDIS8, but would like to use new terminals at the coil ends as these dismantle easily, and the 'tails' on both my secondhand ones are for the four cylinder, colour wise. I'm a bit fussy about things like this, and dislike jointed wires unless there really is no option.

I know you can buy the complete connectors new - but I'm an Aberdonian.
So does anyone know the make and part number etc of the actual terminals?
They look to be Tyco, but only a guess.

I'll also need some 8mm HT lead to make up a couple of longer leads than the ones I have.

I removed the existing pins, removed as much wire as possible then soldered the new wires on:

I didn't think getting hold of new pins was going to be particulary easy.

Yes - but I'll try first. I don't like soldered connections where there is likely to be flexing.

The EDIS ECU plug was ok - decent length tails, so I'm happy to splice there. The coil ones had been cut off pretty tight.

Dave,
I can supply the new connectrs for the Ford coil packs if you want some (although I dont advertise them as I tend to do them in kits with new coil packs, etc) and I do the stepper plugs too:

Is that the complete connectors or just the terminals? It's just the latter I need (x6) being a cheapskate. ;-)

For a proper job, you need the appropriate crimp tool too.

I would agree with soldering being a bad idea, unless you independently strain-relieve the wire (by supporting the PVC sheath properly).

Chris.

Hi Dave,
I have the connectors and pins, but I dont sell them seperately Im afraid. You can buy them seperately though, but just not from me :)

You can solder directly to the crimps, I tend to squash them a little and then solder them. They are inside the plastic plug so they wont flex,
Phil

I've probably got the correct crimp tool - but a decent one for ordinary spade connectors look like it would be fine for these. If I ever can find them.

I've been through the Tyco site and they don't seem to be made by them AMP or Molex.

Another thing is confusing me. This is a diagram of the UK Ford coils I have with the plug numbers as per its label :-

but the MegaManual says coil A is on the right when viewed like this.

The coilpack ones are mini-timer type terminals IIRC(i.e. same as fuel injector connectors). Get them from http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... usings.php
Although they dont look the same, I'm sure that's what I used.
