Wanting to fit my propshaft now, MGB, LT77 gearbox, SD1 diff. Which way round does the proshaft go (as in, which end bolts to the gearbox side; the end with the movable bit in-and-out, or the other way?!)

Also, what bolts should I be using and to what torque? Haven't got any bolts ATM so will be buying some.

thanks

cheers. As for bolts, was just wondering if I needed anything special or super strong, or if I could get away with just standard stainless jobbies etc.

8.8's are fairly standard and pretty tough- dont think you should be using stainless for stuff like that, props always seem to have unf bolts- maybe the fine pitch is preferable- I'm sure someone else will let us know why!

right ok i have no idea what you mena by '8.8 allen bolts' - is that the size or something?! How long do they need to be?

8.8 is a tensile strength rating, generaly the standard tensile rating for HT bolts, but they do go far beyond that,

8.8 is the tensile strength. Also a fine pitch is preferable as they are less likely to work loose. SD1s are torqued to 37 lbs/ft.

fine pitch? You mean the thread size?!

And how long must they be?

Range Rovers use 3/8ths UNF with a nyloc nut.

Just measure up how long it needs to be.

I would find a cheap supplier for Land Rovers and get some from there, I believe they're all the same.

Chris.

No problem with asking a question like that Ollie, especially when its such a critical set of bolts eh!
I wonder how many folk have just fitted what they had laying around and sheared them off?

well that's what I thought. I do have a bunch of metric nuts/bolts that I could make work, but I don't want snappage of any sort.

BTW Perry I ain't forgot about the thing in July, if only I had a few more hundred quid a month spare I wouldn't be far off finishing lol (always the way eh?!). Slowly but surely working my way through a very large snag/bits list . . . then I start on the rewiring!

Good news is I've found a place to sort my radiator (long story) and got a cheaper, better solution for alternator replacement! Woo!
