Hello i'm martijn from the netherlands.

i'm currently building a rover sd1 3,5 v8 (11A) in a opel kadett c coupe.
and i have a question about the waterpump.

i now have a sd1 long waterpump, and i was wandering how much shorter a p5/p6 waterpump will be?
because i can't find it anywhere on the net. the only thing i can find is that it's shorter

or some other solution to get as many extra space as possible

someone on the cobra forum told me that a shortened sd1 pump is 6 inches and a p6 pump 4.5

I did it on my SD1 engine your right it's about 1.5" shorter, john

and did you had to change the crankshaft pulley? or other pulley's?

Yes you have to change the crank pulley and you also have to remount the alternator to bring it back into line. You will also have to to this with anything else your running off the belt like PAS. You should also change the alternator pulley as the belt is a different width on the older setup but you can get away with the original most of the time.
The big saving by the way with the P6 stuff is at the crank so if you have anything low down like a steering rack it saves a load of space. This doesn't help many but it helped me a massive amount on my car.

i'm only using a waterpump, alternator, crack. so that's a bit easier.
but on my current crank pulley i have two spaces for a belt. i'm now using the front one. can't i just use the back one for the new setup?

No its not in line with the water pump.

The crank pulley can have a groove cut into it, but the P6 shorter pump has a diffrent pulle on that as well, the SD1 won't fit, either pick up a complete front end, crank pulley pump and pulley and suitable altenator bracket, i think nige from ukblowers can supply aluminium pulleys for the pump and cut the pulley to suit, john

p6 crank pulley
alter my alternator bracket.

and maybe a different alternator pulley.

yes sounds about right. You can quite often pick up all the parts together as its a common conversion. Pumps can still be bought new which is probably not a bad idea and as said before you can buy new pump pulleys as well, I know v8 tuner sells them if your stuck http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/category.php?id=18

on v8tuner: p6 pump, 2 pump pulleys, bolts, belt, alternator brackets, but i can't find the crank pully.

They turn up on ebay now and then, dam heavy to post tho ! john

yup rover only part so far as I know so you will have to look out for a second hand one. You will save a small fortune too if you can find the original parts second hand. You could always phone Paul @ v8 tuner and see if he has any. Another source of them might be JRV8 from this very forum as he is a regular gold mine of rover parts and might well have what your after. Worth dropping him a PM.

here in the netherlands is a guy who has alot of p5/p6 rovers and rover parts, so i think i'll give him a call for the pulley's. and then buy a new p6 waterpump. i think a fresh waterpump can't hurt
