re-drill flywheel

hiya all,
Finally made a desicion about my GEMS flywheel.
I am gonna drill it for a 9.5ins clutch, as looks like the 10.5 wont fit the LT77 bellhousing.
But hows best to drill the flywheel with the new bolt holes.???
Do i take it to work and use a pedestal drill and some clamps...or get it done professionally using some cnc equipment.
If i do it at work, how will this affect the balancing???
anyone care to share their experiences, before i make some holes.

you could always buy one that will fit ....

or if you want to drill it ..find the centre of the holes by bolting it to the crank shaft then hold a maker against it will turning it , that means the holes will be equal distance all round

the only way I would be drilling a flywheel would be on a Mill, and either a dividing table or rotary table,

I had to get My flywheel drilled for a series clutch to fit on. I couldn't use a car flywheel as unit was considerably lighter and thinner.
Anyhow thankfully my dad was able to help out and just happens to have a CNC milling machine in his garage (as you do). He made a bush for the centre of the flywheel and bolted it to the table. This meant that when he moved the wheel around it would remain true.
He then drilled and tapped the new holes for the bolts which was fairly straight forward. For the pegs he drilled some further holes in the relevent places and used bolts, with the end turned down to a dowel and loctited them in place.. I will get some pics up on photo bucket shortly and post.
Don't know if its worked yet as I haven't driven the motor but the engine runs fine with no vibration

That looks like you'll have a knackered flywheel. Better had it refaced before you had the dowels glued in.
Its pretty common that SD1 flywheels will crack. It took me ages to find a good one.
Did you have it balanced after the modifications?

I didn't manage to get it balanced.. Im completely out of money at the moment and need to get the landy moving again so I can sell my other car (costing me a small fortune to run) so I can get some money.
If the flyweel causes vibration, or theres excesive judder I will get it replaced once I have sold the car..
Im aware of the proper way of doing things, money just doesn't allow it at the moment
