The bellhousing is the same for both boxes.
There is a difference between bellhousings for 2WD & 4WD vehicles I believe.
Not sure about the clutch size question.

The 4WD one is much longer than the 2WD one. The 2WD one is 'nornal' i.e. what you'd expect to see in a car. The 4WD one looks long, there's much more space than is needed to house the flywheel and clutch.

yes the 4x4 housings wont work on a 2wd box. They bolt on but the input shaft is far too short and you will have horrible alignment problems with the gear stick assuming the bellhousing even fits the car.

Time to start looking again then

the one I have has scoop shapes round the top half whereas (I think) the 2wd is smooth with 2 ribs
ps: Does anyone know/can anyone measure the length of the 2wd bellhousing face to face? So I can double check mine before I sell it!!!

I had exactly the same problem and bought a 4WD bellhousing by mistake. Here's a pic of the two types:
The top pic being the 2WD unit. The dirt plate won't fit the 4WD bellhousing either and the location for the clutch slave cylinder / pushrod are in very different places.
