Hi Pierre, did u use the range rover convertor? did u make sure it was fully home when it was fitted to the box, i think it was 3 noticable "clunks" when it drops in all the way

hi there! thanks for answering, yes i did use a rr convertor and it did lock in, its possible it may have slipped during fitting, do you know if the shafts on rr boxes are the same as xj40,s?

Worked fine on mine, as long as you have the correct convertor, thats the one from a zfhp22 boxed range rover it should be right, did you use all the spacers in the correct order?

oh wow! guy i bought the convertor off said they were universal.
story so far is, got 3.5efi, bought and gutted xj40 for parts , had to get convertor,so bought one. fitted it all together after reading forum for tips,
zf box tilted to one side but is ok, fitted into chassis ,started it and ran ok, but no drive.
looks like i will have to get another box with matching convertor! i might not have the right convertor
thanks . will have to source one locally.

Do you get drive in any forward gear?. Does reverse work?

Chris.

hi chris, no drive at all. so took engine & box out , on removal of torque converter saw the broken teeth of the oil pump! i managed to get a s/hand pump from a local r rover breaker for 20 quid, rebuilt box..... hey presto oil pressure! i am putting an extra 2.5mm shim in behind the flexiplate to take up a 5mm discrepancy, so i have 49mm from bellhousing to t/ converter, and 51mm from engine to flexiplate.
most of my info comes from reading all your posts, great forum guys.
fitting box to engine tommorow, and hopefully refitting over next few days.
many thanks guys.
ps hope to add a few pics of my first ever project soon.
