hi all.
i have a customers trike in for repair. it has an rpi 4.6 rover engine, mated to a bw35 transmission. the tranny has eaten itself big style. my question is would a 65 be a better bet due to the age of bw35 boxes now. and is a 65 the same length as a 35, or would the 14" propshaft need altering.
the customer wants his trike back on the road, so modifications have to be kept to a minimum.

If I remember correctly (a while since I had the 2 side by side), the BW 35 is a slightly bulkier box than the 65. It has different mountings, and gear linkage (this will probably have been changed to suit the trike though). The torque converter is interchangeable between the 2, and I'm sure there is a slight difference in overall length.
I believe the 65 is slightly stonger, but the 35 is reportedly cheaper and easier to recondition.
If I were you, I'd just find a serviceable 35 and stick it in - less mucking around.
The GM 180 is another alternative, but you would need flexplate, converter, crank spacer etc, modify linkeage, and mounts.
