Ive built a 4.6 out of a 3.9 block. I'll be fitting this engine into a defender 90 using an R380 gearbox. What flywheel would be best to use - standard weight 4.6 range rover??

I'd use whatever fitted up with the clutch assembly. I don't know of any difference that matters. The 4.6 flywheel will have the teeth on it for the crank sensor, but I guess you're not using that.

Didn't think there were any 4.6 engines with manual gearboxes and therefore they only came with a flex plate for the auto box. Range Rover flywheels are very heavy and I would have thought you'd be better off with a SD1 flywheel approx 31lbs which will work with either a standard or uprated SD1 clutch assembly and mate to the R380 gearbox. If you want a heavier one then one from an early manual R/Rover might work.

Its a Defender he is building, he needs the large flywheel and clutch that goes with it.

so do all manual defender V8's and range rover V8's have the heavier flywheel? I mean as long as i dont get an SD1 wheel it'll be ok?

I have just fitted the 4.6 flywheel that has the timing marks built in and its actually lighter than my old flywheel from my 4.3.
