how easy if the EFI to wire up, my car was origanally carbs, btu i converted to MPI k series engine, now im lookign to move to on a V8, i want EFI, so is it simple to wire it up?
on the k series i just found the input wires which turn on the ignition/starter motor and spliced it in to my loom.
are EFI rangerovers fairly simple to rip stuff out of?
other rover cars are usually just a white for ignition, and a red/white for the starter, allt he way from old mini's to MGF's,
only issue is i thinkt he ECU is under the seat so there will be fair wack or wires going fromt here to the engine bay.

Hello Ralph,
You really need to obtain the Efi wiring loom for the type of engine you want to install. IE - ex SD1 needs and ex SD1 loom. Ex RR similarly.
Make sure you inspect all the connections/wiring on a S/H loom as they are subject to corrosion and or scuff damage. Repair as requ'd.
After that, its is simply a matter of emulating the path to each component location, including the ECU as per the original loom donor.
Its possible there might be one or two extra (or excess) connections depending upon whether the donor or donee were auto or manual or whether there are minor component differences, as can happen.
All that will be easy to sort out once a main loom is installed.
If you choose to make your own loom then you really need the original circuit diagrams and a source of individual wiring components, contacts, shrouds and connectors; plus high quality coloured wiring as per the original spec (Do-able but not easy).
To give you an idea of the cct components involved for an SD1 Efi have look at the temporary image available here:

well i will try an buy a hole car/landy and break it,
usually what i would do is keep the engine loom compleate, cut the wires at the bulkhead and splice in ignition/starter/water temp/oil presure/battery warning etc etc in tot he car.
first remove every other electrical device, lights etc, and take all the loom tape off so i can see whats what.
i want the ECU int he engien bay really, but guess i can shorten all the wires to it if i have to.
will try an find a hole car then!

The flapper EFi loom connected to the car loom with 5 wires, so it was dead easy to hook up.
Not sure how much more complex the Hotwire is?
Remember that the EFi system was fuel only, so the ignition system is wired up in the conventional manner, i.e. +12 to the coil +ve and coil -ve drives the rev counter.

interesting, i didnt know that, in that case what type of dizzy is it? i pray it does not have points???
if its hall effect i will be happy!
points should all be destroyed!
what do you mean by the hotwire? and also flapper??
im new to this V8 stuff, first V8 project for me!

In the rangerover the EFI loom is a seperate loom, it plugs into the main loom under the steering column. Only 5 wires are needed to be connected to get it to work.
The distributors in the RR EFI motors are all magnetic pickups, some have the amp incorporated in the dissy, others it is beside the coil, only very early RR had points, before EFI.
The hotwire or flapper is the type of airflow meter AFM which the system uses. The earlier system was flapper which has an AFM with a vane inside which 'flaps' to measure the airflow. After 89 RRs had a hotwire AFM which measures the airfolw by the cooling effect of the airflow over a heated wire.

Or find a local RR breakers yard and buy a SH loom

if the hole loom connects with 5 pin connector (under the bonnet?) is the ecu (under the seat?) connected on a seperate harness?
thanks for the help btw people!

You're new to this reading thing arent you

ahhh yes you are right, new to typing to hence bad spelling.
so in other words the loom can be removed off the ecu, unpluged from the steering colomb connector, broight through the bulk head then its seperate?
presumably the wires are... 12v, 0v, ignition on, fuel pump output, and???

The flapper loom basically has a big ECU connector at one end, and all the sensor / actuator connectors coming off it. Some way along it has the connector for the main vehicle loom. So you put it on the engine, poke the ECU connector through the bulkhead so the ECU is inside, and hook up the connector to the main loom where it ends up (maybe under the bonnet or inside the car, doesn;t matter).
Here is the ECU end in my van:
