Hello all, still in the process of building my RV8 powered VW panel van,and would like if possible to ask advice on what type of silencers to use on what will be a very short exhaust

, It will literally come out of manifold turn back on itself into some kind of silencer and out the back, I would like it to sound fruity but not ear destroying,
Any advice greatfully recieved.

either a pair of cherry bombs or a pair of turbo mufflers slung alongside the engine should do it

Turbo mufflers would be less annoying. Depending on the length of the exhaust the cherry bombs can give a really annoying resonance at certain rpm. Might be worth getting some advice about the heat they can take. It sounds like they are going to be pretty close to the collector.

You can swap manifolds from side to side if it helps exhaust routing.
A balance pipe between the sides reduces noise (or bringing both sides together before the silencer).
I ran a single straight through box which was too loud, but now I run two straight through boxes, one after the other (from Jetex, 2.5" bore), and it's just right.
Not sure how that helps with your packaging restrictions though!

If you are really stuck for room, you can use these,

they do the job, use less discs and you can make them quieter, TBH, I dont like the exhaust sound they make, its a bit "hissy" but they will ge you out of trouble

Thanks for the replies gents, yeah space is the problem here, engine will only just fit with some modification, so exhausts will be less than 1.5meters in total,if that,on each side.
