Hi All

I've just been watching Mark Evans in a 4x4 is born and it's got me thinking, over the winter I want to replace the cam in my SD1 3.5 engine for something a little better than the standard one. If I were to use one of Real Steel's mildish cams does the timing gears have to be replaced with vernier ones or are standard ones ok?

Thanks Stu

Proper vernier sprockets are the ultimate and will get your cam spot on if used properly. You can also get bottom sprockets that can be offset a couple of degrees either way which are obviously cheaper, not as accurate but will do the job.

only really worth the vernier set up if you are going for a full tune up, the offset keyway set up is all you need if you are just going for "a bit more power"

Buy a decent set, Steel, Not cast or that fibre crap thing, not worth the expense of buying a cheap set, its a bit of a false economy as they have been known to fail on a hard driven engine,

I use the Cloyes set on both my engines and they seem fine.
