Alternative gearbox for a Rover V8

Anyone any suggestions for a good gearbox to use with a Rover V8 in place of the LT77?
Making an engine to bellhousing adaptor plate and suitable prop is NOT a problem.

Toyota, I have been giving my Supra box some serious abuse over the last 3 years and its going to have some more next year.

The LT77 won't take sustained abuse from a big capacity Rover - they're just not made for the torque.
An R380 is a better option if you can find one, tougher than the LT77 (arguably not much in it between that and a T5).
The Toyota boxes are reputed for being strong, and there's always the Tremec option, as you can get Tremex TKO2, TKO500, TKO600 for about a grand new - though I've hardly ever seen them second hand. 500 means 500ftlb rating, 600 means 600ftlb - they're tough!!

I've nothing against the LT77 as such but if there is a better option I'd thought it best to go that route now rather than later.

I agree. My MGB will have 170bhp max. I am sure the box will cope with this.
I bought the box thinking it was an economic decision, but after the final bill I think it might have been better to go R380 or T55. I bought the complete system from MGOC which seemed the easiest way out.

Well, if you chose the Toyota option, and can make your own bellhousing, you might gain a few friends here, who also want a bellhousing lol !!!
I used the R-154 for about 4 years, and only ever stripped a tooth of 3rd gear once.
IMO it was a superb performer. Bargain for what they are, although can be difficult to find at times.
If its a local breaker, they wont have a clue how good they are.
The bigger places may do though, and might ask for more money. So best to hunt around your local breakers yards, or smaller places with no real performance links.
