Hi Folks.
I am just about to refit the engine and box after a rebuild.
I have fitted a "new" LT77 box from the MGOC and have been setting up the reverse switch.
I notice that there is a lot of play in the linkage.
For example if I select reverse, left and up, the switch closes but when I take my hand off the stick, still in reverse, it moves so far right that the switch opens.
Also I can move the gear stick between 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th in the neutral position with no noticeable movement of the input shaft.
How much play should there be in the knuckle joints please?
The remote linkage is a newly rebuilt shortened unit to suit the MGB.
I have replaced all of the mounting rubbers as they were all shot.

Just removed the remote unit.
The actual knuckle joints look OK but there is over 1mm clearance in the two supports. This allows the shaft to move side ways almost 10mm iat the input shaft end when fully extended!
Should these two supports have any play in them at all?

Looking at the pics I would say that the bush should be a snug fit on the shaft Dave.

That's what I worried was wrong!
I will have to contact MGOC unless some one knows where I could get it rebushed.

I have a strange feeling that bush is a standard Teflon "D" bush, have a measure of the shaft, 3/4"-19mm??, if its a standard size you may well be able to get a replacement from a good bearing shop

The shaft diameter is just under 14mm. Over 17/32" but under 9/16".
The bushes are split, what looks like copper on steel. I thinK the hole is 5/8"
I shall try to find some one who stocks them.
Rimmers have them on there list but are no longer available!!

I've measured up a reasonably good remote I have in the garage and got 13.88mm for the shaft and 16.01mm for the housing, so your shaft is probably OK.

I suspect the bearing, a soft bearing layer inside a steel carrier, was originally made by glacier. Should be relatively easy to identify a suitable replacement - I've just found a Deva-BM bearing in the Glacier tech info that is 14mm internal 16 mm external and 10mm long.

The problem I have is getting the outer cup sections of the ball joints - anyone know of a source?

I use a plaec in Hemel on the Maylands estate, called Stateline Bearings, dead handy as in the bottom half of the unit is a Hydraulics shop,,
They are just off Cleveland Way??

I have contacted a few TR8 places. They seem to have quite a bit of LT77 parts.
So far I believe the part numbers are TKC3796 for the bush and UKC9338 for the plastic outer ball joints.

I have the same part numbers - both NLA !?!

The ball to match the plastic cup is 42H1112 and costs about £5.

I've asked a four wheel drive lt77 specialist if anything similar is on the land rovers but this seems to be a two wheel drive only component.

The latest I have is, TKC3796 out of stock but can get some at £0.24 + VAT and UKC854 Selector Bush in Superpro Polyurethane SPFO355K at £9.35 + Vat. Both + carraige.
I am not sure if the UKC854 is the same as UKC9338 as they have no stock or supplier for that bush.
I shall ask.

Superflex sell SPF0355 for £2.29.
I would guess my quote was for the complete kit, ball and all.
We shall see when the chap replies.

UKC854/SPFO355K are the mounting rubber bushes!!
I think I will have to live with the plastic bushes I have and just change the metal bushes. I think I will also get some of the super flex mounts bushes.
Do you need any bushes Dave?

I've got all the remote mounting bushes I need - the uprated ones from Rimmers seem a worthwhile improvement.

The one bit I really need is 2 or 3 of the UKC9338 bush for the ball joints - if you fit them upside down they don't stat put!
