I know I could search on the old forum......but life is too short!
Im running 3.9 with ported heads, EFi with megasquirt, "Apposing" twin plenum and twin Garrett turbo T25's with 6-7psi boost.

There is no best....
What do you want it to do ?
the standard camshaft will work perfectly, or go for something mild.
I had a cam ground by Kent and Piper. The Piper one was crap, the Kent one pretty good.
Just depends what you are trying to achieve from it.

Hi.
Ive been sent a Kent m248 to fit.
My spec is 5.0l 8.0:1 cr and Procharger D1SC.
It says 108deg std Suggest 106deg.
This seemed like quite an extreme cam to me, but they tell me the rpm ranges are for 3.5l and the larger cc will flatten it out allot.
What do you all think?

Duration 266 degrees, lift 0.44"
That's the spec for my turbo camshaft. Bought as a Lund LE1 but its just a rebadged Kent I believe, can't remeber which model though.

I think a turbo will amplify the cam's characteristics.

Well I did a quick calculation using Desktop Dyno 2003 and yess on a blown 3.5 its still a very extreme cam but on a blown 5.0 its a very nice cam with power readings till 6000 rpm. The curve is almost the same as on my blown 3.5 with a Viper Huricane only difference is that with the M248 on your 5.0 you will see something about 330 bhp @6000 rpm and 320 lbft 4500 rpm (fly).

I tried one of those dynosim programs ages ago.
I wouldnt be too reliant on its results. More so on a turbocharged engine.
From what I seen, it didnt really accomodate different turbos ( either by exhaust turbine/housing or compressor , manifold design.
Then add cams into that equation.....and how they might function with EGBP cause by different turbos and manifolds....
Its guess work.
Aside from the cam I had Kent grind me on my 4.6, One cam I really liked on my 3.9TT was the Typhoon with Rhoads lifters.
Unfortunately, I never had any other cams to go back to back with it.
That said, my first 3.9TT's used the RC87, and it performed very well too.
I did briefly try this in my first 4.6, as well as a Hurricane. Both seemed to o tame, and I went for the Kent grind ( typhoon wasnt available at that time, or I would have went for it )
All in all, I was never happy with any of them. I got another cam ground by Piper, and that was the last cam I used.
With hindsight, the best recent cam, was the Kent grind.
But, everyones setup will be different. My biggest gripe, was none of them took me far enough past 6000rpm ( not like I recall the Typhoon doing anyway )

A friend of mine in sweden as an Isky cam which revs past 7k on his n/a rover. He say's it nuts.
As for turbo cams, another friend had a custom grind done by crower with zero overlap iirc. It transformed his tr8 racer.

As you well know....n/a and FI are 2 completely different things.
A big cam that will scream on a n/a car, will usually be poop on a FI car. It may make a little power up top, and be crap everywhere else.
Opt for a mild cam, and it will have grunt everywhere.

Hi All
Thanks for the info.
Bit confused now though
I am booked in to get it dynoed after new year so we will see.
I hope it will be ok, dont want it to be to much of a screamer cos its in a 4x4 with an auto box, but at the same time with the ammount of time and money invested it better make way more than 330hp
Any Ideas?
Happy Christmas to all

Holy ****
Ive just looked up the spces on the M248 on kents website.
Tha, relatively speaking is a HUGE cam. No way would I ever reccomend something like that for a turbo build !!!!!
it lists it as a n/a 3500-8000rpm band ???? with circa 300deg duration !!!
5.0 or not, I still think its a bad cam....especially as it will probably carry huge amounts of overlap too !!

Oh dear
just checked too.
on the box its written 248deg solid, .533 lift 108 std
suggest 106 installed.
does backing it off 2 deg help with the overlap and soften it off?
Iwas going to pick a m236 but was told it would not be much good.
Im stuck at the moment now dyno is booked for 8th jan.
Do you think kent will let me take an armful of cams on sale or return?
What do all the timing no.s mean?
