MGB V8 Silicone Hose kit.

Post by tetlow »

Hi Folks

I have been looking into getting a Silicone hose kit for my V8 Roadster.

It seems there is not a kit available for the RV8 due to the number of combinations possible, but from what I have seen most setups look very similar to mine. I do not want to fit Silicone bends and Ally straights unless I have to. The less joins the better.

I contacted a few manufacturers and have been told that I would need 20 or more orders to make it financially viable.

I fitted a complete set of MGOC Kevlar hoses about 1 year ago and they are already showing signs of wear.

If any one is interested in a hose set let me know.

I think the best thing would be to take a picture of a set of hoses and all can see if they are what is needed. If we get to the 20 mark I can get some prices sorted out. I would have thought if a Kevlar kit is available then why not a Silicone one.

From what I have heard the cost is in the tooling and as each hose is hand made then different colours should not add to the cost. ( I do plan on only using black though!!)

Regards

Dave

Why not approach the MGOC and see if they would do a deal.
In 12 months time when my BGT V8 rebuild is nearing completion i'd be interested in ordering a couple of sets.
Unfortunately, body repairs are eating up all the student loan ATM!

The top hose is one of the main problems for me too.
I sent a full set of hoses to a company who is trying to get as close as possible match.
My top hose was cut in two as I added an inline Fan sensor but it still seems a problem.
If I don't get good matches I will look into fitting standard silicone ends on ally centre sections. It will create more resistance but should work OK.

Thats right, don't waste your student loan on food and warmth, spend it on v8's. That's what i did.

If it dont fit, force it. If it breaks, you needed a new one anyway!

I did mine 400SE, with just bends and ali joiners looks very good.
There is now a TVR kit. but 90% of that is just standard bends and strights.

I've gotta say, that looks great! It's hard to get EFi engines to look "detailed" but yours look great. I especially like the intake, on mine I wont have a flap or hotwire AFM so was thinking about a 90 deg silicone elbow on the plenum and a looong and big ally tube with a stonking filter on the end near the front of the car.

on another note, it looks like your 9th (cold start) injector isnt wired in?!

Oh, I i'm stealing your painted fuel rail idea

I am at last in the process of getting a set of hoses made up.

I am having 2 slightly non standard, all in Black for me.

The cost it a bit high though!!

2 complete sets comes to £215 + VAT + P&P, this does cover all water pipes though.

I have managed to only have the lower rad hose not in 1 piece. It is 3 pieces with ally joiners. It should look good but due to being able to design the shape myself I hope to keep it well away from the fan belt.

The top hose is joined anyway with the fan thermostat unit.
