Stromberg needles

I’ve been helping a friend trying to sort the carbs on his new toy, a Rover v8 trike.
The engine block number points to it being from an SD1 but on speaking with the guy who built it in 1993, he was fairly certain it came from an old Range Rover. Anyway, we tried the carb adjuster tool, the one with a long Allen key down the middle but it doesn’t fit.
We ended up dismantling a carb and it needs an adjuster with a sort of short but thick screwdriver end which he’s ordered.
The other odd thing is the needles aren’t round like SU ones but have huge flat sections on the front and back. I’ve no experience with Strombergs, this pair are running very rich and none the pictures we’ve found show needles like this. Does anyone know if they’re standard parts, we’re wondering if a previous owner has taken a file to them!?
