Just posting on the offchance someone can tell me the best way to undo and then refit a main bearing cap on a 4.6 RV8?

The cap is cross bolted.

Is it not recommemded to just take off one bearing cap while the others are still tight or nothing to worry about?

Should I undo the cross bolts first?

Undo the the cap bolts gradually on each side?

Best way to refit?

I think the main cap bolts get losened first then the cross bolts.

When refitting mains to 13Nm crossbolts to 13Nm, the main caps to final torque 72Nm, then cross bolts final torque 45Nm.

The main cap bolts and cross bolts can be resued but the cross bolt seals should be binned.

Not a question I've ever considered!

I have always just undone the fasteners for the cap I wish to remove, and pulled it out. They are a very good fit, so can be a bit of a s*d to get out though.

Chris.

Yep, it was tight, but a bit of side to side wiggling with a hook up the bolt hole to give some downward pressure and it came out.
