v8 3.5 head gasket

Whilst talking with a mate, he has a 3500 sd1 engine that has the wire rings installed on the deck of all cylinders , the conversation was , have you got to use copper gaskets with this type of block or can you use the tin ones? ( I think copper) but he says tin. , David.
