Yesterday the BV8 fell off the axle stands... fortunately I was the other side at the time and didnt get crushed.

Today... I got everything finished and took it for a drive... doing around 45mph down a dual carriageway.... bonnet flies open and wraps itself round the windscreen. Thank God it had those two little holes for the carbs so I could still see to get to the side of the road...

The bonnet was basically folded in half and the whole roof is stoved in with an extra large dent at the back where the bonnet prop whipped round and belted the roof after its mount sheared.

I managed to beat the bonnet back into shape and have fitted an extra safety catch so even if the main one fails it cant open like that again.

I'm so pissed off tonight. Infact, I think im going to call this car Christine...

so fed up. Really wish i'd have just kept the money and bought an MGC instead. blah.
Annoyed. I mean i managed to beat the bonnet back into roughly a bonnet shape because its only a temporary bonnet so not worth making a new one. But the roof.... im SO pissed off right now. :S

Sorry to hear it... Lucky escapes really. Roof is a b*gger

at least its repairable... could of been worse and wrapped round a tree....

ooohh !!! now there was tip i read somewhere about doing large dents like that, u heat up the surrounding area with a hair dryer, then quickly squirt co2 in the middle and as it cools the panel pops back ...... or u could use one of those sucker things ! john

Or you could give it a gentle push from underneath through the cloth headliner

Unfortunately the headlining in an MGB isnt cloth. Its a big piece of cloth covered wood or something.
It'll have to look a mess for a while. Altohugh I like the idea about using the dry ice for some of the bigger dents??

Shame about the dent in the roof. When my projects start trying to kill me, I usually leave 'em well alone for a couple of weeks and do something else (part of the reason why my projects take so long). I bought these on the weekend...



... I've been paranoid of something like that happening to me on my rover, since I cut the slam panel off to get the engine in and out easier and refitted it with some self tappers to aid quick removal.

I've got my Landie bonnet held down with a bolt after it flew open and the spare wheel bolt went through the windscreen......
