After what seems like an eternity getting all the parts together and finding time to build it I finally fired up my new 4.2 tonight, and what a fine feeling that was!! It started straight away, good oil pressure and it's as smooth as silk. I'd forgotten just how good the old Rover V8 can sound with only 1 small silencer
I can't wait to take it out for a spin, as soon as I've fixed the leaking radiator! there's always something isn't there

MMm, me thinks you need tubular manifolds

Damn I wish I had a 4.2... or even some 4.2 heads. I'll swap ya! hehe.

I found out that reason the rad was leaking was the 'cable ties' used the mount the Pacet fan had worn through one of the fins. I tried to repair it but couldn't get it to seal so I ended up buying a new rad. I thought I'd make a new mounting bracket for the fan to stop this happening again.
This is what I came up with:-
Fired it up again tonight and it all seems ok this time, test drive tomorrow, can't wait!!

Who is the manufacturer of your exhaust?
Did your headers fit without a problem (I'm assuming that system went into a Defender)?
I'm in the market for headers and a new exhaust, and I'd like to know what has been working for others.
Thanks,
Punter

Hi, System is on a Range Rover Classic (Softdash) system fitted well, only mod I had to do was to reroute the Live feed to the starter motor.
There will be a system for a Defender assuming it is stock i.e. not converted which could be out of position and need mods
System is manufactured by Double S Exhausts
They are available thru most LR specialists

i had a custom exhaust made for my defender uses the same tubular manifolds and y pipe as that but without the kink
then thats attached to a normal 200tdi/td5 bore hybrid mixup diesel exhaust sounds awesome too

Another way of mounting fans to a radiator if your'e having one made is to have tubes soldered into the core, Kempston radiators done this for me:
