LT77 input shaft bearing mod question

I've seen a modification on the internet where the tapered bearing on the input shaft is replaced with a parallel bearing but can't find it now - I thought it was Ashcrofts but they say no.
Does this ring a bell or even better, does anyone know the bearing part number?

Thats odd....
Anyway, John's reply was its RPi who did that conversion. I rung them today but they don't anymore and don't supply the parts either.

The preloading setting of the main taper bearing also sets the loading of the other taper bearings on that shaft.
If you replace the input bearing then the others cannot be setup correctly.
Maybe this is why this "mod ?" was discontinued.

btw, I had a 'recon' gearbox from a well-known Rover parts supplier where the front cover wasn't fitted right, you could see daylight between it and the casing, and let all the oil gush out when I tried to fill it (fortunately on the bench), meaning whoever built this 'box never knew anything about this crucial preload adjustment, or didn't care. I never thought to check before trying to put the oil in because I just accepted a 'recon' gearbox from such a supposedly reputable company would be ok. I now go somewhere else.

Beware, there are a lot of "experts" out there ..

Oh well, I can't afford to replace the box with something better so looks like I'll be using it as it is and will see what happens...

Ball races are available that take a thrust as well as a linear load, so it's not outside the realms of possibility that a ball bearing could work in that application.

I'd still question the advantge (& question whether this 'special' ball race bearing was actually used in the 'mod'). Like I said, there's a lot of 'experts' out there.
