Dear all

Am planning betrayal - and inserting a chevy into my car later this year (likely summer). I realise that the orthodox way of performing this is to mate a chevy auto box to the L322 - bu this will involve a great deal of work to the tunnel, remote linkages (already custom) and gearbox mounting etc- have a quaif headset for my R380 and this should be strong enough (straight cut HD gears etc). So what I would like is a linking solution. I have asked this before I know - just want to explore further.

I was thinking if I could source am adaptor plate then I could perhaps use a customised clutch of a chevy pressure plate and friction plate with a rover spline pattern - would probarbly need this made as a custom peice to be strong enough. So questions..

1) does anybody have for sale - or know where I can get a chevy to rover (SBC) adaptor plate - Could use a rover o chevy and flip it round lathering the starter motor area etc. making one may involve me ruining the whole thing by misalignment!

2) does anybody know where a clutch like the one I described could be sourced? I could just use a VERY heavy duty rover clutch and have the chevy flywheel drilled for this.

Actually have found a fair number of 23 spline by 1 inch clutches available in the US. Mopar among others - could get the flywheel drilled to accept this.

Still - what about hat plate?

I hae actually contacted marks 4wd in Australia who seem to sell just what I am looking for - waiting for a shipped price on adapter, bush and clutch

PM Perry he either has a plate or has one you can copy, otherwise I have a chevy here and a mid plate just get a rover bell housing and make one.
The chevy starter bolts on the block and is shimmed to mesh in place, stock chevy flywheels are either 153 or 168 tooth (from memory) and most starters can be used on both. Find a clutch cover for the flywheel (I would go 153 tooth) and a clutch disc from a rover input shaft and off you go, it hardly counts as a custom it can't be simpler.

Sounds great I suppose, a 10.5 inch rover clutch would fit inside a chevy pressure plate (11 inch). Ha this been done before? Just thinking about the grip strength of this sort of setup? And what about modifications to the spigot bush, I could bring a rover bell housing down to set up etc- but wouldn't a gearbox be needed to line it up properly- I can see an input shaft anapping like a carrot it I am not carefull!

Price from marks in Australia is 800 pounds delivered - that includes a 10.5 inch HD clutch and engine mounts to drop straight in. Basically for 800 quid it will just slot in!

Now without the clutch it's 550-600 quid. Discussed with one or two venerable grinds on the forum and a viable option would be using a chevy 11 ich cover/pressure plate and a very HD (paddle perhaps) rover 10.5 inch friction plate??

I have some thick ally plates that mate a Rover V8 to a Chevy box. They are un-drilled blanks.
