Ignition timing and vacuum advance question \ issues

Post by 109matt »

Good morning all !

i have a couple of questions \ issues that if one of you guys could help with would be fantastic !

so i have a 3.5 on SU carbs since i have put the su carbs on its running beautifully apart form tick over. if i have the vacuum advance pipe connected to the dizzy it will tick over at 800 rpm but will not drive along at 30mph without coughing and spluttering (its fine if you have the boot down but the fuzz and the neighbors dont like it to be honest).

If I disconnect the pipe its ticks over at 1200 rpm (even with the pipe blanked off) but it will drive fine with out any coughing or spluttering.

this is where im hoping you guys can help ! what do i do with the pipe ? is it that the Dizzy is cream crackered and i need a new one? Or is it just that i need to re do the timing ?

this is the old girl, not everyone's cup of tea granted but i like it :-)

Have you checked the vac advance and centrifugal advance both work? You could well have one seized up.
