Hello All,

I have a Cobra replica with a 'normal' (1987 SD1) rover V8 engine in. I would like to replace it with serpentine front ended engine. what I need to know is, is the serpentine fronted engine any longer than the standard engine? as I have limited clearance for the front crank pulley.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Scott

PS the serpentine engine is the one that does not have a hole for the dizzy...

The serp front ended engine is shorter than an sd1 motor (or at least it shorter then the sd1 front end i replaced with e serp front end)

The 3.9 serpentine engines do have a dizzy hole its the later 4.0 and 4.6 engines that don't have a dizzy.

yes mine is the later 4.0 engine without the dizzy hole. is it possible to put a standard rover V8 front pulley on and just use a normal V belt?

No not really, the 4.0 has a different crank nose plus you'd need to make your own pulleys for alternator, water pump etc plus the water pump runs in the opposite direction to the sd1 pump, the serp water pump pulley is driven by the back of the belt where'as the sd1 pump pulley is the opposite as it runs on the inside of the belt. You'd have to change the whole front end inc timing cover and get a spacer to take up the difference in crank sizes and run a dizzy to supply drive to the sd1 oil pump. Why do you want to change to an sd1 front end?
