Hi Chaps, I know nothing about forced induction and my post is just a bit of a pipe dream really but is the above charger a: any good, b: the right sort of charger for a 4.6 lump.

My engine was not really built with forced induction in mind, it has too much CR and the cam is probably wrong too (RPI's version of a Piper 285) but I thought I'd ask!

Hi
it as usual depends on application, this sort of supercharger is very efficient over a wide range of engine speeds and is about the best for general mild tuning use. They are very good where you want a small duration increase in power because they heat up the inlet charge much less than a turbo or roots blower, this means you can use a small charge cooler and the thermal mass of the inlet tract to cool the charge while the boost is needed meaning you can put together a small compact installation. At the very top end probably not as efficient as a centrifugal blower set up but they make much better boost through the re range very efficiently.
the onlt thing to be aware of is that if you are getting one made foe an existing OEM installation they tend to be matched on the small side for the engine they have come off and spun fast, i.e. there is not a lot of spare flow available over that needed for the original application, one off a 4 litre jag will do a mild tune 4.6 street car but probably wont be big enough for 1bar+ of boost drag motor of an endurance race engine.
Best regards
Mike

Cheers Mike, you post has given me 'foot for thought'

The blower is on ebay, unfortunately the current bid is quite high and there are still 7 days to go before the end of the auction!

Hi,

the one for sale on Ebay is too small for your 4.6.

Cheers.

LOL, you found it!

It's also more than I am prepared to pay without looking into this whole forced induction thing in much more detail. I've shelved the idea for the moment.
