ebay cam followers??

hi guys, has anyone had any experiance with the ebay cam followers?
Just replacements from rimmers, etc seem to be about the £100 where as the ebay ones are £55-60.

Unless Rimmer are supplying genuine parts (you'll know by the part number) they can come from anywhere. The price is no guarantee of quality.

Hi
Buying them from an otherwise unknown supplier you need to ensure they are for a Buick/rover v8 tappet not the chevy tappet as is the same external dimensions apart from the cup that takes the push rod. As there were more chevys made in one quater of production as rover ever made in the entire life of the rover V8 the chevy lifter is often sold in place of the Rover item, by less scrupules suppliers because they are so much cheeper.

Good advice!
Basically in my humble they are half the price because they are half as good!
The RV8 already has a reputation for chewing up the valve train, shove in dodgy lifters and it will eat them for breakfast!

Don't do it.
I did and 3 months later ended up doing the rebuild again with genuine lifters as one failed and damaged the cam
Ended up costing 2 x cams lifters gaskets plus replacing a damaged rocker where the follower failed

I must admit as this is a racing truck it would seem an excallent oppertunity to stick in a big fat high lift mechanical cam and matching valve springs. . As you have to replace the lifters any way the differance in cost between sticking with a "standard" cam and a performance upgrade is reduced by the cost of 1 set of lifters. It just seems a good idea to invest a little extra cash and get some cheep horsepower, after all you are not worried about in town manners and reving this engine is a good way to get power out of it.

I see your point Kiwi...... but finances are a little tight at the moment and can't realy afford hundereds for a cam kit at the moment
It's got a mild cam at the moment mind, so I'll give that a go first and see what it's like as I'm aiming for torque more the bhp with this lump, but like I've said to a few people.... this might change after driving it at the first event ass I've only ever driven the 4.6 rover v8 and that's in a P38 which kind of kills performance a little!!

I remember RPi going back to OE lifters from Land Rover because they had a few issues with the ones they were using, but they were expensive.
Buy cheap, buy twice.

RPI told me a story about a parts manufacturer called 'Bhere' or something like that. They made thousands of lifters where the inner cup had been machined incorrectly. It would flip round inside the follower which cause all sorts of damage. RPI were doing good business rebuilding engines that had suffered damage because of this.
I bought my lifters from RPI, they get them made in the US by a company that makes most of the standard lifters in the US, they do have the right size cup!

Looking for other options on the lifters, and came accross the Crower Cam Saver lifters which supply more oil to the working face of the cam....
Anyone used them before.... or what are your opinions?? oil pressure drops by 1-2psi acording to the jargon on them, but they are cheeper than the stock lifters in the UK (about £65), but obviously carrage will put the price up a touch!

Buy genuine landrover lifters. pricey for a reason - they last! They are also quiet as a mouse.
