i've just brought a mk1 escort which had a rover 3.5 in it, but due to a crack in the block had to come out,
i,ve got another block from sd1 but i need to swap it all over which is no hardship only time.
but them my mate offered me a 4.9 which was in a range rover running but efi packed up so he wants shot of it
my answers are are they the same size engines i take it was a 4.6 to start with. as i know the 3.5 fitted but cant go bigger as its tight.

and if i have this engine i'll want a 4 barrel so what about distributor ?

The block and cylinder heads are the same externally. The front end (water pump, oil pump) may be a different length.

I don't know if you can take the front off a 3.5 and slap it on a serpentine engine (one with no dizzy), but if you can that will give you your dizzy drive.

Failing that, you could run your ignition with something like Megajolt but keep the carbs.
