Starting to hate this f***** car,
got caught in traffic tonight and the temp gauge started climbing and climb and climbing and then she dumped the water,
now back to hot running issues again
I still recon its due to the intercooler restricting the air through rad when the fans are on,

Hard to tell in the pics.

But is your radiator mounted directly and tight to the intercooler ? If so, that could well be a problem. I'd always leave at least an inch or two between them, so the radiator can draw air from around the sides of the IC.

Although you'd also need to cowl the top of the rad then, to prevent hot air from being recirculated to the front of the rad

It is all a plot by the demons of the Infernal Combustion Machine to keep you focussed and spending on them, Coops!

Cant see how an intercooler would cause that sat idling in traffic.

Admittedly the range rover radiator is a big old beast, however the lower half of it is blocked by the bodywork and the upper half blocked by trans, oil and intercoolers.
(and consider the radiator was designed for a 1974 3.5 v8, not a turbocharged 5.7)

Likewise with mine.

Almost my entire radiator is shielded by a 4.5" thick IC core.

Although it does sit about 2" back from the core, and the lower grill/valance opening is free to the radiator itself, so it can draw air from outside, without having to pull it through the IC

More likely the system had an air lock in it.

......and you have checked that your water pump is turning in the right direction

water pump spinning the correct way yes
no air lock as had the system vacuum filled today and he said the system is good with no leaks,
my intercooler is bigger than the rad so it shields the radiator,
the new spal fans dont really seem to pull enough air through the intercooler and the rad,
if you put your hand next to the intercooler you can feel a faint suction through the core,
have a few choices,
new intercooler and maybe rad, (custom jobbies,)
try some more powerful 11" fans that draw more air, i know this means more current draw but if it works then so be it.

I'd still check for air locks even after vacuum filling.

Have you checked the stat.

and as already mentioned above try moving the intercooler forward an inch or two if you can, or the rad back, or both

My entire radiator is shielded by my IC.

Apart from a small bit at the bottom about 2" tall at most. But as said, it does sit about 30-40mm back from the IC core, and at that base, it has access to free air.
The water rad is totally blocked by it. It's as big a water rad as I could fit, and has a single 16" puller and a smaller 6-7" puller fan
Actual external dims of my rad are 700mmx435mmx50mm thick ( think actual core is about 43-45mm though )



You can see the small gap here at the bottom. So when moving slow etc I guess it gives unrestricted access to cold outside air. When moving faster it probably makes little odds and there is sufficient flow through both.

Tried with old stat and new

Im 80% certain its an air flow issue with fans

It may sound stupid but are both fans drawing air from the front and pushing it rear wards?

The are a number of people in the GT40 community that have had one or both wired in reverse!
