And six figures presumably
lol, you wouldn't get much change out of £10k for a wildcat build

the heads alone are £2.5k!!!!

Just think though, £10k would get you a twin turbo Viper V10 . . .

Sticking with my original plan now. Have just won a 3.9 engine with the cross bolt castings and the caps too I think. I have seen the bosses anyway, and it's the right year for the caps. Haven't collected it yet.

It's one of the rare serpentine front covers with dizzy. Could I convert this to run a non serp belt arrangement so it will fit in the mgb but I can keep the crank driven oil pump? The water pump and crank pulleys look too close together though so there might be one for sale soon.

Anyone any advice on drilling the cross bolt bosses? Are the mains caps already tapped, do I just have to match the holes up in the block or do the caps need drilling too. That's easier than matching the holes up I suppose.

Am hoping to put a five litre stoker kit in it so got to start saving the pennies, and maybe Merlin heads if I can save up enough. The missus has imposed an alcohol ban on weekdays  so I am saving the money I would spend on beer

Thanks for the offer but I do have a normal 3.9 cover already. The interim serp may be available still though. I'm at uni, and the engine's going home so I won't see it until I am next home which may be a week or two.

I have never seen a serp cover, will it go in an mgb with a take off or will it still hit the chassis leg or steering rack? I was thinking about keeping it and putting non serp pulleys on but the pulleys seem to be closer together and I don't envisage there being much belt in contact with the water pump pulley considering where my alternator goes if I do that.

There will deffo be a power steering pump and air con pump tho, and crank, possibly heads too I will be doing my own porting (or getting Merlin heads) . I have two sets of heads now, and I want a set to practice on but I'd rather practice on knackered heads so may be some heads going for part exchange for some cracked/damaged ones.

Will be on ebay and/or the classifieds no doubt sometime soon.

Are all the intermediate serps the same, is the alternator in the same place? This is the engine I won....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0346433412

If that's the one you want, you can have the bracket for that if you want to make an offer for it. Looking at another picture, it seems to be a large bracket with the belt tensioner on it so not entirely sure what it's worth so if you want to make a fair offer for it, PM me.

It's in the wrong place for me anyway I reckon so even if I keep the serp cover I'll fabricate my own.

As I say, I'm at uni and my dad's picking up the engine sometime next week. If you want it, I'll get him to wip it off and post it to you. I'll give you his email, you can go through him.

Adam,

As thats a landie engine it may well be low compression, I have a good set of HC 3.9 pistons which you can have at a sensible price.
