calling in to speak would probably be better than an email.

They appear to have a big workshop.

But as I've said, you can easily shorten or widen the axle DIY if you have a welder and some common sense. Oh...and an angle grinder.

i totally agree mate,
but as im going to need shafts etc and they do shafts to, may get them to do it all if price is right and then its got a garuntee,
also may price up getting the ends changed to the better ends,
get every thing done now then its ready to go,
also just found out two of my old work buddies who got made redundant work there

Ray at hauser has got back to me:

Hi Tony
Ford axle ends are £60 a pair + vat.
The shafts are all the same price regardless of c-clip or not £275 + vat (28 spline shafts will be Mosser Engineering shafts).
bearings for above would be £60 a pair + vat
Narrowing your casing and welding on new ends is £120 + vat.
This price is if you supply the case already stripped out , blast cleaned and de-greased internally.
If you want me to do this work for you and re-assemble your differential ( we have to remove the middle for the jig alignment bar to go through ) you would be looking at £30 for blast clean and £140 on top for strip, clean & re-assembly + vat.
The Ford housing ends will require retainer plates at £15 a pair + vat
and Tee bolts at £12 + vat.
Hope this helps
Regards
Ray

Hauser without cleaning and rebuilding diff, £636.85

Doesnt sound like a bad price really.

Still see the 9" ends etc as an unnecessary expense.

yes and no mate,
the idea is once the axle is in i dont want to have to touch it again, to upgrade to c clip elims etc,
so if i get this all done now its done, and sorted and wont leak, (i hope)
its a lot of money though, so fingers crossed my capri axle sells to help fund it,
if not, will get part of it done this side of crimbo and the rest after,

if i could find someone who would shorten the axle for me, that would save alot, but caprisport said they are not confident enough to take this on this task,

Dont see why not.

The only aspect that would need proper jigs, is welding the 9" ends on.

To shorten it yourself would require an angle grinder and a sleeve to be made up to fit inside the axle tubes to align them before welding.

In steel, anyone with a lathe could knock them up for very little money.

So to get up and running for now, its that cost, plus new shafts at a minimum.

The existing bearings will be fine, they wont leak, and everything will work.

Although any shafts made for that setup, likely wouldnt be compatible with 9" ends if you wanted to do it later.

But as I said, I have original 8.8" ends, and no problems. The Moser c-clip elims arent great, but they do work fine. But as you wont be using them anyway, its no big deal.

I see no reason to justify the 9" ends when you are still retaining the c-clips, unless these actually do away with the c-clips or something ?

yeah the 9" ends do away with the c clips mate,
the bearing is held on the shafts with a collar like the capri axles,

I guess in the long run, its a better version of what the elims are trying to do then.

May as well go down that road then.

Valley Gas got back to me today,

Hi Tony

Yes this is something we can do, as for the axle ends and converting them to 9" what we can do is a C Clip eliminator like we do on the chevy's and the kit is suitable for a 8.8 axle.

So price wise....

Narrow case £180.00
New shafts, bearings, studs etc £340.00
C Clip eliminator kit £150.00

All plus VAT im afraid and we would be looking about 4 weeks for the shafts to come in possibly earlier but im saying 4 weeks to cover me.

If you're interested please let me know.

Thanks Ellie
