when doing a rebuild you need to get the oil gallerys clean, otherwise there is little point in putting new parts in just to have them wear as a result of poor oil supply/ contaminated oil. You can do a rebuild with the block in the car, but for 10 minutes work to get the block out you save alot of time and grief on the rebuild.
