Hello,
In my case we made spacers to fit between the caps and the plate as the idea was to copy similar girdle plate used on the firts Repco Brabham F5000.
These spacers will have to be able to stand the torque without crushing so that you maintain the required torque on the main bearing cap.
In the case of an 2 bolts main cap block the stud will need to be 1.500" into the block 2.250" for the cap and spacer 0.750" for the girdle (in my case where I use 20mm plate) and 0.750" for the washer and nut. Therefore the stud will need to be 5.250".
I advice you to use ARP 5.3'' stud kit, myseld I orderd custom J.Eales studs and it was out of price.
I opt to have soon an CNC-machined version of girlde plates. Firts waren hand-made.
The other alternative is to integrate directly spacer in the aluminium plate and skim main caps.
Here an exemple this type of girdle plate made by Ron Chatfield for Geoff Ogilvie P76 :

That's the sort of thing I'm on about w.r.t. the spacers - that photo above has the spacers integrated into the girdle, very strong looking indeed!

Out of interest, what would be the price of a girdle equivalent to the one you had made Wotland?

thanks

Just asked my mate about making mains caps and he says he's not sure how much they would cost.

How much have they cost you guys to have made, those who have done. Don't think the plate will be too expensive.

Hello Ollie,

I paid around £120.00 just for 10 custom J.E. studs without washers and nuts.
10 spacers in EN24 for £54.00
The 20mm thickness aluminium plate was bought on Ebay for £63.00
Both sides of plate have been skimmed for £50.00
That taken me one day to make one girlde plate.

It is relatively cheap as I remember to ask to Motorpreps the price of their girdle plate which integrates spacers + billet main caps and they asked around £800.00 + VAT

Just found on the old forum my previous topic about girdle plate : http://www.v-8.org.uk/snitzforum/topic. ... rms=girdle
