Is the final drive on a P6 OK with a 4.6? I broke the final drive units on both of mine with the standard engine. Are stronger units available?

unstable load wrote:Why not do the whole engine, including the Efi? That way, you have the coil packs and ECU etc, meaning you have some wiring ( OK, a lot of wiring) changes to make, but you will end up with a very nice set-up.
There is a thread about your question, either here or on the Rover Forum, and, there are a few that have done the Efi engine transplant, too.
Have thought about it, but it's the other things like a computer, fuel pumps, etc etc.
At the moment I have access to a dead 4.6 with a slipped liner, plus I also have an offenhauser 4bbl manifold and a few carter carbs that may fit.
If I go EFI, I'm also not covered by insurance and I'd have to get it engineered which is not cheap.
Dave: planning to go Jag rear end with outboard jag brakes.

I'd have though fitting an entirely different rear axle a lot more work than EFI.

nah! It's been done by a few p6b guys and to be honest, the rear end of a p6 is so typical of British engineering. Over engineered where it doesn't need it, critically under-engineered where it needed strength.
The input shaft into the diff is barely thicker than my finger. wtf!
I'll more than likely be using a p6b front cover... I'll make a thread once the engine build kicks off. Ideally I'd like roller rockers and matching lifters etc. Can't see it happening though...

It would be *very* over engineered if it could take more than double the torque it was designed for originally?
It was the differential drive shafts which broke on my P6Bs.
