Rings should be bedded in within 500 miles or so. I am running the stock Real Steel ones also without anny problems but indeed you can fit them upside down. Also importand is the ringslot position.
I can remember that I was also struggeling with the rings position ( wich way up) but I kept the rings that came out and marked them so that I could use them as a guide line ( wich way up).

In my theory, if you have wornout pistonrings you should have blow by.
In you run a PCV system than here's the way the oil reaches the engine.
Its also possible that your intake gasked is not lined up properly or just a bit damadged. If this is the case than its posible that oil (presurized by the blow by) found its way in to the intake ports aswell.

Can you tell by the collor of the sparkplugs wich cilinder has the oilconsumption??? If its all than its possible comming in trough the PCV system. If its one it could be the intake gasked if its two next to each other then maby your headgasked is gone.

But you atleast should solve the blowby problem.
Bugger that means the engine has to come appart..................

Yes! I've chopped about 1/2" off to give more ground clearance (and shortened the pickup obviously). The baffling is left as standard SD1 (windage plate and small baffle at the front). I have a remote filter and oil cooler to make up for the shortfall in capacity.

Never experienced oil surge when cornering hard, and I don't believe I'm overfilling it.

I was just thinking that if ur filling it by capacity, 5.5litres? it might be a tad high and giving the problem? it was just a thought, but if it's the original dipstick all should be fine, it is pushed all the way down into the block? john
So thats where it went !

Do any of the Rover V8 specialists sell Total Seal rings? If not, TS advertise a lot of bore diameters, so could an engine be built to suit off-the-shelf rings?
It's not a bodge if no one finds out!
